AthenaWeb, a moving picture of science, soon back in business

athenaweb: a movig picture of science

As an AthenaWeb subscriber and user, you already know what our video portal and scientific news centre can offer you and your organisation.

Feedback from our regulars confirms that our headlines are a neat package of science and research news in Europe, our films have spiced up corporate videos and filled key TV slots, and our stock of images – many free of rights – have adorned posters, web articles, reports and brochures Europe-wide. Meanwhile, our multilingual scripts and script notes covering diverse scientific themes are more than excellent background reading for the thousands of communications specialists registered to the website.

AthenaWeb has some 8,000 subscribers, over 750 science videos (100 hours of footage), and a growing CV of accolades by the media, scientific community and research policy-makers at national and European level.

In under two years, AthenaWeb has become a recognised and well-accepted brand on the market. Its solid technology and unique approach to protecting contributors’ rights have boosted the exchange of film programming and the exploitation of audiovisual material and news about European science, innovation and research.

But as TV and web converge even further, AthenaWeb must keep up with the times!

athenwebFrom June 2007, with the continued support of the European Commission’s Research DG, AthenaWeb will transform into a veritable television station for European science on the internet. Heading the redevelopment is Lab To Media’s Kathleen Van Damme who sees ‘AthenaWeb V2’ as Europe’s big chance to take a leading position in science film streaming, reconciling scientific programmes on TV with content accessible at any time.

While not revealing too much at this stage, the new vortal will beef up its services to current communities and extend its scope to provide direct on-line placement of ‘non-broadcast’ videos made by researchers, teachers and professors. With a new look and feel, a special domain for broadcasters, podcasts, blog spots, high-quality full-screen viewing, and greater emphasis on community shaping, AthenaWeb is looking at dominating the market for sharing scientific imagery, films and news. What’s more, AthenaWeb remains free of charge!

Next step: The AthenaWeb team will send you a mail with a link to your user profile and instructions on how to ensure you are fully registered to benefit from all that the new service has to offer.
